CASTING FOR JUSTICE | DAVID BLACK PROJECTMARYLAND / DMV | NON-UNION
We are casting a powerful independent project centered on David Black and the ongoing effort to clear his name.
This project is bigger than a film.It is about telling the story of a man, his family, and the impact incarceration has had on their lives, while using storytelling to bring greater attention to David’s case and the fight for his exoneration.
We are currently fundraising to support production costs, including additional talent, costumes, locations and other essential elements, so this casting will include a combination of paid principal roles and volunteer/community rolesfor people who genuinely care about the cause and want to lend their time and presence to the story.
SHOOT DATES: September 29, September 30 & October 1
Most talent will work approximately 1–2 days, depending on role.
LOCATION: DMV
PAID PRINCIPAL ROLES• YOUNG DAVID : Black Male, 18–25Darkskin, slim, Grounded, emotionally layered and able to carry the weight of a deeply personal true story. Must believably portray a younger David.$250/day (2 Days)
•YOUNG Daughter— Black female, 4-8 (the younger in appearance the better) Strong dramatic instincts and emotional subtlety.$200/day
• ADULT Daughter — Black Female, around 20-30Warm, grounded and emotionally connected to David’s story.$150/day | 1–2 days
• WITNESS — Older Black MaleDark-skinned Black male for an emotionally intense deathbed confession scene. The material is dark and requires a subtle, truthful dramatic performance.$125/day
• WHITE POLICE OFFICER — White Male, 30s–50s,
Larger build. Dark/black mustache preferred.
$150/day
• AUNT — Black Female, 30s–40s,
Dark-skinned. Appears in intimate family scenes, including a birthday gathering.
$200/day
⭐Additional paid roles may be announced as fundraising continues.
FAMILY + SUPPORTING ROLES
• COUSINS / FAMILY MEMBERS
Black men and women of various ages to portray David’s extended family.
• CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS
Men and women with a believable authoritative presence. Prior corrections, law-enforcement or military experience is welcome but not required.
- VOLUNTEER / COMMUNITY / PARTICIPATION -We are also seeking people who believe in this story and want to participate in the project as volunteers.
Volunteer roles may include:• Prisoners / incarcerated men• Protestors• Family and community members• Prison visitors• Background for prison sequences• Additional community scenes
Approximately 10+ background/community participants will be needed.These roles are especially meaningful because they help us create the scale and authenticity the story deserves while we continue raising the funds necessary to complete the project.

WHY THIS MATTERSFor David, this is not simply a character or a storyline.It is his life.
We are inviting actors, artists and members of the community to help us tell his story with care, dignity and truth and to help amplify the ongoing effort to see David Black exonerated.
Whether you are joining us as a paid actor or volunteering your time because you believe in the cause, you are helping us put this story in front of more people.
